Come to this session, and learn how to strip away filler words, peel off the unmentionables, and get down to those bare essentials that keep audiences coming back for more. We’ll have a drawing to give away a copy of Marcia’s book.

This will be an interactive session, so bring your comments, stories, and questions!

This SIG event will be open to Technical Editing SIG members and non-members.

  • Other STC members: $20
  • Non-members: $25 (The cost to attend this event only, as a non-member.)

Speaker Profile

Marcia Riefer Johnston has run a technical-writing business for … a long time. She has never worked as a stripper, but hey, she’ll do almost anything to call attention to writing skills. The author of Word Up! How to Write Powerful Sentences and Paragraphs (And Everything You Build from Them), Marcia taught tech writing in the Engineering School at Cornell University. She studied literature and creative writing in the Syracuse University Masters program under Raymond Carver and Tobias Wolff. She has been involved in STC off and on for twenty years, first in the Central New York chapter and later in the Willamette Valley chapter. She lives in Portland, Oregon. For more, see .
