Co-Managers (two-year term)

Amanda Swiontek
Amanda is completing the second year of her 2-year term.

I recently joined the STC and attended the 2017 Summit. I am currently a member of the following chapters and SIGs: Orlando Chapter, Technical Editing, Usability & User Experience and Women in Tech Comm.

As a technical writer and Tech Comm grad student, I firmly believe that strong technical editing skills are an advantage for any technical communicator. Our SIG is a platform to educate and excite our members about our field - we are significant contributors in business and technology!

The new co-manager will join our current co-manager, Amanda Swiontek.

Sherri Leah Henkin
STC gave me my start in tech writing. Since 2000, I’ve attended chapter and SIG meetings, and even a couple of Summits. A few years ago, when my professional focus changed to editing, I joined the TE SIG. I’ve enjoyed the professionalism and camaraderie in our SIG. In 2016, I served as Secretary for the SIG, and I’d like to do that again in 2018.

Tim Slager
I’ve been a technical writer and editor for more than 20 years for Dematic Corp., The McGraw-Hill Companies, and as a freelancer. I like baseball, birds, and books, which I try not to edit while I’m reading.

Membership manager

Marcia Shannon, CPTC (Foundation)
I joined STC in 2011 and started attending the Summit in 2013. That is when I discovered how exciting SIG membership can be. Over 30+ years, my IT career progressed from support to trainer to business analyst to technical writer. I am the current Secretary of the Technical Editing SIG and the Instructional Design SIG. Participating in the SIGs has made my STC membership much more rewarding; I find myself connecting with many talented, passionate people who are happy to share their experiences and insights in Tech Comm. I have found that contributing to the SIG is a satisfying way to learn and grow in our profession.

I am currently an independent contractor, having retired from a full-time technical writer gig in 2016. I am a serial cat keeper and enjoy being the fun aunt for my numerous nieces and nephews. I live in South Carolina, where it hardly ever snows, a condition I am thankful for after fifteen winters in Indiana.
