In this introductory “Co-Managers’ Corner” column, I find myself saying hello and goodbye. Today is nearly my very last day as co-manager of the Technical Editing Special Interest Group (SIG), so these words are bittersweet.

I think editors are uniquely suited to be judges for the STC International Summit Awards (ISA). In many ways, judging an entry is just like editing. The same analytical skills are required. The same diplomatic approach in offering advice applies.
The Plain Language Association InterNational will hold its 9th biennial conference in Vancouver, BC, Canada, Oct. 10 to 13, 2013. The theme of the international conference is Plain Language Advances: New skills, knowledge, research, and best practices. The conference will be co-hosted with Community Plain Language Services Corp.
I have been pondering technical editing processes. Most notably, as I play on my iPad putting together jigsaw puzzles made from my favorite vacation photos, I have pondered whether most technical editors like putting together jigsaw puzzles.
