SIG Watercooler Chats

Image of a watercooler
The watercooler
Join other SIG members as we explore a trial meeting format, watercooler chats, which will be held in addition to our regularly scheduled meetings and presentations. This format will give us a chance to participate in scheduled and moderated chats about selected topics. The idea is to have a time when we can gather, as if around the proverbial office water cooler, to investigate topics and exchange ideas by discussing them through the SIG chat interface. Watercooler chat topics and times will be advertised in advance.

Watercooler format

  • No formal presentation will be given, although we will have a topic and a moderator.
  • All who attend are encouraged to ask and respond to questions.
  • The discussion, in Q&A format, will be held in a text chat interface.
  • The chat will usually NOT have an audio component.

This trial format is new for the SIG, so please join us for the adventure. You will have a chance to provide feedback about your user experience to help us develop this meeting format.

A transcript of the chat will be posted File Galleryin the file gallery ( Members SIG members only).

Preparing for chats

  • Prepare a few questions or comments about the topic. Be ready to participate in the discussion, not just "listen."
  • Test the chat software at least one day before the session. Go to the SIG chat page http://www.stc-techedit.org/Chat(external link) and sign in.
